If they ever want to win again, Democrats must ditch their national party completely. It is dysfunctional, incompetent and at least functionally dishonest. What did it do with the Billion+ raised for the 2024 Presidential campaign? How much did it spend to facilitate campaign appearances by Beyoncé or Oprah? Was any serious thought given to a primary process? Will it forsake its celebration of gender dysphoria? Will it agree that all voters should have I.D.’s?
On a national level, the party is burdened by fractured, conflicted constituencies, young vs old, suburban vs rural, hipster vs traditional. There is no center.
Ineffective leaders like Senator Chuck Schumer don’t get the big picture. These ideologic scolds have no hope of leading their party back to power in my lifetime. President Obama has left the building.
Between Dems doggedly tone deaf embrace of intolerant liberalism and identity politics, they are stuck yelling at the mirror. “Trump is Terrible.” It is not working. Case in point: Nobody really thinks BLM has actually elevated Black lives. Kendrick Lamar won a Pulitzer, but he did not win the hearts and minds of most half-time viewers. At least this time he wasn’t jumping on police cars, but him howling about Drake was spiteful and small-minded, just another Democrat diss track.
On the issues, Elon Musk is eating the Dems lunch. Their only path back to power is to go local. Ditch every expert who led us to believe Kamala Harris and Tim Walz were the best candidates. Can we mostly agree that in retrospect she seems too small for the big job? He is certainly too Beta. My vote for them was a protest against Trump and January 6th. Not many were interested. Most of America is in love with Trump right now, big stick and all.
But if you are a Democrat don’t lose hope. Republican grip on Congress is shaky, a one or two vote margin here or there. The party should concentrate on specific swing districts in 2026. Pick candidates who are well-funded, centrist, pragmatic idealists; Candidates like LA’s Rick Caruso who lost a close mayor’s race to Karen Bass. How has she worked out?
Embrace cops and GI’s. We want justice and jobs for federal workers too, but government is too fat. It is being remade. As Eldridge Cleaver said, if you’re not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.
Calling Trump names or lamenting his rhetorical flourishes makes Dems sound whiny. He is way more popular than protestors shutting down traffic on the freeways.
Run on local issues, bad roads, dangerous neighborhoods, school performance, crime. Aim for local success in 2026. Right now Trump is Teflon Don, tough and bullet proof. The Supreme Court has his back. He won’t get his Gaza Riviera, but at least he’s trying something different. Dems haven’t had a good idea since the New Deal, and that is so 1930’s.
