Geraldo Rivera, Eyewitness News. The city-wide power failure lasted nearly 24 hours, some areas hit worse than others. New York City is the scene of intense destruction and looting is widespread.

This clip, taken two days after the disaster on July 13th, begins with an introduction by Barbara Walters. Mayor Abraham Beame tours the city and is met with open hostility, and the federal Small Business Administration declares a disaster area.

Geraldo Rivera gives further insight into the conditions on the ground, as the families of more 3,400 people arrested for looting await news of their release, and business owners face the prospect of rebuilding.
