Pentagon personnel

A former high-ranking Pentagon official tells me he and pals are extremely distressed by last Friday night’s personnel massacre at the Pentagon.

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Air Force General Charles Q. Brown is out the door. Only the second Black man to run the Pentagon (after Colin Powell) Brown has been dumped, fired, gone. Also kicked out was Chief of Naval operations Admiral Lisa Franchetti, the first female member of the Joint Chiefs.

Getting rid of the only Black and the only woman on the panel is an unmistakeable signal that the new guy in charge of our military, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth wants the military to move away from politically correct, DEI and affirmative action programs to focus on war fighting.

The new Chairman should help in that regard. He is F-16 pilot and Retired 3-Star Air Force Lt. Gen John ‘Razin’ Caine. He was an effective warrior against ISIS a few years back, and can be counted on to keep the military out of the Human Resources business.

Our military is now run strictly by old white guys. The force itself is more integrated. 68.8% of the military is white, 31.2% racial minorities. When my dad was an Army Staff Sergeant during WWII, the Armed Forces were still segregated. His unit was almost exclusively Puerto Rican and mostly used as kitchen help. We are all tremendously proud of his service. As Napoleon said, ‘an Army marches on its stomach.’

Like many of President Trump’s personnel moves, his abrupt shakeup in our military leadership is extraordinary. My veteran friends consider it a clumsy way to shake things up. Still, many are enthusiastic about the military’s turn away from political correctness and woke race politics.
