Geraldo Rivera is in the Philippines for Eyewitness News, investigating the unrest then rocking President Ferdinand Marcos’ government. The country is a vital outpost for the U.S. military hosting 16,000 troops at the time. What will happen to them during a possibly violent change of government? We see the conditions of the troops on the island, remember those who liberated it during World War II, and have an interview with many principals, including the first lady Imelda Marcos. Introduction to this clip by Barbara Walters.

The government of Ferdinand Marcos was removed from power by the “People Power Revolution” of 1986, amidst massive corruption allegations.

The son of Ferdinand and Imelda, Bongbong, was elected president of the Philippines in 2022.

U.S. troops continued to be stationed in the Philippines in 2024.
